How do I know if I have a personal injury case?

Personal injuries range in severity from relatively minor cuts and bruises to spinal cord injury, catastrophic brain injury, quadriplegia and paraplegia, and even wrongful death.  If you or a loved one has suffered a personal injury due to another party’s actions or negligence, you may have a case.  Contact our experienced Pittsburgh personal injury attorneys to learn more about personal injury law, and to determine whether you have a case.

What kind of damages can I obtain in a personal injury lawsuit?

The damages a personal injury victim obtains depends on several factors, including the circumstances of the accident and the severity of the victim’s injuries.  Damages may include financial compensation for lost wages, medical expenses, the cost of future surgeries and medical care, pain and suffering, disfigurement, and lost enjoyment of life.

Medical Malpractice Law – Common Questions

What is medical malpractice?

Medical malpractice law is a branch of law relating to the negligence of healthcare providers.  It includes birth injury, diagnosis error, medication error, anesthesia and surgical error, hospital acquired infections, general medical errors, emergency room treatment errors, and cancer malpractice.

What do I have to prove to win a medical malpractice lawsuit?

To win a medical malpractice lawsuit, you must be able to prove that you were injured, that your healthcare provider acted negligently, and that his or her negligence caused your injury.  It is best to hire an experienced medical malpractice attorney, since proving fault in medical malpractice cases can be complex.

Motor Vehicle Accident Law – Common Questions

What should I do if I am injured in a motor vehicle accident?

Whether you are injured in a car, truck, motorcycle, commercial vehicle, or bicycle or pedestrian accident, you should hire an experienced motor vehicle accident attorney right away. Call the police, stay at the scene of the accident until the police arrive, seek immediate medical attention if you are injured, and get the names of the other drivers involved and their insurance information and any witnesses to the accident.

I was injured in a motor vehicle accident, but it was partially my fault.  Can I still obtain damages?

In most states, if more than one party is responsible for a motor vehicle accident, each party can be held partially responsible (comparatively negligent).  The injured party may still be able to obtain damages albeit reduced by his or her level of negligence.  Again, it is best to enlist the services of a skilled attorney to make sure you receive the compensation to which you are entitled.
